  • Don't let the computer go into 'Sleep' mode!

You can alter when your PC enters sleep mode through the Control Panel. On my Vista laptop, click Start > Control Panel > Power Options.
Have you searched the HP website for a more up to date version of the driver?

Sounds like the spooler service may have stopped. Try going to start, all programs, accessories, command prompt

In the prompt type in "net stop spooler" without the inverted brackets and enter
Then type in "net start spooler" without the inverted brackets and enter

    Try and print again

Take a look at the PC's BIOS setup pages, in the Power Management (or similarly named) section and see what your ACPI Suspend Type is set to.

If it's set to S3(STR) that may explain the problem, as power to the USB ports will be cut when suspended, and either Windows or the printer may be failing to re-initialise them properly.

You may find that setting it to S1(POS) will help, but be warned: your PC will probably use significantly more power when "sleeping".
