I think most resots in places like Tenerife would have english channels.. just ask when you book the hotel.. ? You could always ring the hotel before you book and see what chanels they have?

Failing that take a lap top and use iplayer?
I have a super start boy too so know how you have to think of the little things ( what most see as bizzer!) Keeps us on our toes anyway.
    Hope you find somewhere nice.

you can't use iplayer when in a foreign country, as it detects that the IP address is in Tenerife, and will block anything

the other option, is a laptop, fast internet connection and a slingbox at home... though, why pay £100 for something like that....
  • Speaking from a residents point of view, I can highly reccomend staying anywhere in Playa de La Arena - for the simple reason that the English DVD/Video rental shop there ('Megatone') also rents out DVD players per week/2 weeks.

They are located directly underneath The Barcelo Varadero.

Failing that, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but most of the hotels in Tenerife that advertise 'English Television' are bragging about Sky News, CNN and at best, Eurosport. As someone above said, it is well worth calling the prospective hotels first, and asking what English channels they show - and don't be fobbed off with a simple 'Yes, we show English channels' - ask for a list ;)

I went to a 5-star hotel in Costa Adeje a couple of years back. I don't remember it having channels like BBC1. Come to think of it, I don't even remember a TV in the room, but I guess there probably was one.

For our children, we took a portable DVD player with us (a laptop might do) and a few favourite DVDs...

Not sure if this would work for you, but thought I'd mention it just in case it hadn't crossed your mind.

  • If they have a telly can you not just take a wee cheap DVD player with you? There are some really small and light ones. Asda had one not so long age that was just a bit bigger than a DVD case! It was only £18 iirc.
That was you can just take a few DVDs just in case the telly channels are a bit crap.

    Hi,

I realise it's a year since you posted your question but I was just searching the net for hotels with English TV channels and a link to this site came up!

Did you find somewhere suitable in Tenerife?

I have 20 year old a son with Autistic tendencies and I have the same problem. If he doesn't have English channels to watch on holiday (including Cartoon Network) he isn't happy, and consequently I can't relax and enjoy my holiday!

He'll watch DVDs at home but on holiday, because we have stayed at hotels with Cartoon Network in the past, he expects to always have it otherwise he'd rather not go away.

I want to go to Santa Eulalia in Ibiza this year and have phoned about 20 hotels who advertise satelliete TV in the rooms, asking what English channels they have, but they all just have news and sports channels.

The Sunset Beach Club in Benalmadena, Malaga have several channels and the Fiesta Hotel at Cala Llonga, Ibiza had several years ago when we went there, but it's a bit too isolated for my liking.

I'm sure there must be lots of others around but finding them hasn't proved easy so far.

Please let me know if you've found any other hotels with a good selection of English channels.

    Best wishes,

    Toni.

Try the Iberostar Bouganville in Costa Adeje. The hotel provides BBC & ITV as standard in all rooms. The hotel has a really good rating. Food is excellent. I think most tour operator book this hotel but you can also book direct on their website.
  • Thanks for your the info, I'll bear that in mind!

There are some hotels in Santa Eulalia with BBC too, but he really needs Cartoon Network and I really want to go to Santa Eulalia, so not given up on it yet!
