problem after virus removal

I have spent the weekend digging a virus out of my registry. My PC is now clear but my C & D drive letters have both disappeared from my computer, I got everything else back. I can access them from other areas just not from my computer. Does anyone know how to get these letters back on my computer please or does this mean its going to have to be wiped?

If you have been in the registry, check the following registry key at HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer
called NoDrives. It is a DWORD number used as a bit flag to control which drives are hidden from My Computer. You can set it using TweakUI, but if you want to do it manually, the least significant bit corresponds to drive A, then B, then C and so on. Thus, to hide drives D and E, you'd set NoDrives to 11000 in binary, which is 24 decimal. Now assuming you haven't set this yourself, the most likely explanation is that your registry has become corrupted. If it is, simply set it to zero (or delete the key altogether) and your drives should reappear next time you log in.

It just shows that you do have to be very careful when editing the registry! Good to hear that it's now working OK.
