Hi there,
I have a dell Inspiron 1300 Laptop about 2 years old and out of warranty.
It had been working well until now. Since yesterday, I am having problems using it.
When I switch on the Laptop, nothing appears on the screen and it remains dark but the green lights on the keyboard light up as normal and then I hear the normal windows booting music, but nothing on the screen. I can hear the laptop running.
So I then then turn it off by the on/off button on the laptop and try again.
After few attempts, it switches on normally and works well untill I turn it off again.
It happens intermittently and not every time I turn it on.
Any help on this would be highly appreciated>
Thanks

It sounds like the inverter used to generate the voltage for the screen display is on it's way out. You could get it repaired or possible connect an external monitor if mobility is not important. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

It sounds like either
(a) a bad connection
(b) the inverter on its way out
(c) the screen on its way out
Can you connect an external monitor and see what that does?
When the screen blanks out, can you see any of the screen in a very dark, faded way? Try from various angles. If you can, then thats the inverter..0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Yes, once or twice I noticed a very faded image and then it went away.
But after the laptop gets switched on if it does, it works fine with normal brightness and everything on the monitor. It sounds like either

I know this is a bit old - but something similar happened to mine and the problem was something very simple, but easily overlooked.
Check the little pressure switch that turns off the screen when you close the lid and make sure that it's not stuck down and cruddy

Update:
Now my laptop screen does not work at all but I see very very faint images on it. So I am using an external monitor which is working well with the Laptop.
I contacted Dell (system is out of warranty) and they ran a few diagnostic tests with me.
The Laptop failed on the
Start DSI Short Test
Error code: 1000-0146
1000-0141
But the following tests passed:
Video card: Pass
LCD Inverter: Pass
LCD Connection Pass
Pic Function test: Pass
A20 Gates test Pass
Does any Geek over here know, what it means?
AS suggested earlier, I was thinking that it might be the inverter which is faulty.
Many thanks for looking.I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0
