Hi
Not sure if your allowed to advise on how good or bad certain events are but I'll give it a go and if this gets deleted then so be it.
Myself and my partner have just come back from the Tiverton Market Car Boot sale (as sellers), and it was pretty poor. Advertised as having 60 stalls when in fact about 10/12 sellers were there. Buyers were allowed in at 2pm and we were packing up at about half past!
To balance this out mind, we have been to some. The Newton Abbot racecourse one for people who live in sunny Devon is good if it isnt raining!

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

I don't see that discussing car boot venues breaches any posting rules and I certainly don't have a problem if people want to add their favourites to the list, or even ones they feel are not worth attending.
I'll add one myself, only as a buyer though, the Bonzer Thursday car boot in Essex has several hundred stalls and seems very busy with fields full of buyers cars. There are a number of traders there and also despite notices warning that priate selelrs and fakes were discouraged there were many stalls selling fake Lacoste and Polo T shirts and a number selling suspicious looking DVDs where the cover picture looked a little, shall we say, home printed.
Lazybones at Barleylands Farm on a Sunday is much much smaller but seems more personal sellers attend selling their own bits and bobs.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Bursledon near Southampton (J8 M27) is always very good.
Its open all year round and although has a few quiet months is fairly busy 8-10 months a year.
In terms of sellers there must be 500 plus on a good day and its a mix of private sellers, traders, and those that fall in between.
Starts nice and early with gates opening at 5.30am and plenty of parking.
Used to live in Essex and have done the big 3 around Dunton, Basildon, Billericay but prefer this one to be honest as its all in one place.0 -

Have you any experience of the Exeter market one? I am thinking about doing this, but a bit scared about having to get there early and also what it might be like!!!It is stuff I would have considered selling on EBay in the past, but selling seems to have got a bit scary on there of late for newbies like me, so I am resigned to getting less this way but with possibly less hassle in the long run.

sold there today and made just £50 in 6 hours (3 weeks ago made £65 before we got rained off at 10.30 after 4 hours). Big yes but if your a seller its hard. definatley a buyers market but the i suppose it depends on what your buying/selling0 -

I have sold at the exeter market car boot sale quite a few times, we have always arrived early, yes you do have to queue up till they open the gates but usually its not for long. This is worth it as there are so many cars unpacking at once you dont tend to get people cramming into your boot, although you will get asked if you have any records/mobiles etc. There are a few traders, especially two women who own a baby shop in exeter, and several other traders who try and knock you right down. I would recommend that if your stuff is good stuff you know will go fairly well on ebay so you know what the second hand value is, dont be disheartened by the early people who try and barter you right down or moan that your prices are to high, because come half nine, ten ish you get the families who actually want your things to keep, whho normally pay your prices (aslong as they are realistic). Our best time selling we took down two car loads and parked next to each other and we made £345 the worst time in the middle of winter we made about £40.If you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.
DMP start jan 2012 hopefull finish march 2020

Many thanks ladysparklexx. I have good stuff and was worried about the hassle you see on TV programmes trying to unload whilst having people rummaging in your boot and other private places!!
Don't want to give it away at the first scare so your advice is very helpful. :A

Best tip I ever got as a car boot seller to avoid the human "seagulls" that swoop on your boot as soon as you pull up was to (1) park in your spot (2) set up your table/clothes rail/carpet/whatever you are using as a display setting (3) lock the car and go and get a cuppa, bacon sarnie, whatever (4) return to your pitch after about 10 mins. The "seagulls" will have, in the main, got fed up waiting for you and moved on, leaving you to set up in peace!
Works for me every time!!!:rotfl:0
