System Restore

I am planning to try a system restore to give my machine a clean up. Thing is im worried about losing any programs etc which are current.

If i do a restore and dont like what ive lost can i restore back to the settings i have today?

    A system restore using "system restore point" wont delete any programs but if you
    do a complete system restore using any install disks yes you will erase/lose
    any third party software you have installed since you bought the PC.

    If the PC is in need of a cllean I would download and run https://www.ccleaner.com
    and also do a defrag, start,All Programs,Accessories,System Tools,Defragmener.
    If using XP, and unintsall any unwanted programs in control panel.
