credit check on savings acc. with cashback

Good afternoon.

I have just joined all the cash back sites and was also coincidentally looking to open a new saving account. Is it still a good idea?

Now, if I open all the ones that have cash back will that affect my credit score? Do they credit check you for a savings account?

Cheers Si

No they don't do credit checks or searches for savings accounts but they do for bank accounts. What they will do (as I'm sure you know) ask for identity checks, although ven here sometimes these are undertaken without you knowing it

    Thanks for the quick reply.

So nothing to worry about then, will go ahead and snap up all the cash back offers!

Had a very circular conversation with a Barcalys adviser the other week when opening a regular saver with them. I had no other account with Barclays and so expected to have ID checked. He also said they would be using a credit reference agency.

I asked, "but that's not a credit check, is it?" All he could say was to repeat the words "we use a credit reference agency to check ID" but he did not seem able to go on to confirm that it was not a credit check!

The only time you have a 'credit check' is if you're applying for credit. These checks are visible to anyone else performing a 'credit check'

An 'identity check' is only checking your name/address, and they don't retrieve any data about previous checks. These checks will be only visible to you when you get your credit reports.

For savings account, they should only be doing an identity check.
