Belfast sink needs cleaning up

Hello all,
I've got an old Belfast sink. It's a wee bit scratched and dirty looking. Any ideas how I can clean it up?
Thanks in advance!

Have you tried denture cleaner? It seems to work on most porcelain type things. If you fill the sink with water and add several tablets, leave it ovenight and then empty it and give it a scrub with smokers toothpaste I reckon that would probably work.
Oh dear, here we go again.

Cheap cola worked down the bog pan last time I tried it, can't see why a few (well you'd be talking a lot really) poured into your belfast sink and left overnight wouldn't produce similar results; just give it a really good scrub after.

I put in a dash of bleach and fill it right to the top with very very hot water.. and leave it.. sometimes I use the water to wipe down the kitchen units and worksurfaces and appliances then to mop the floor after it has soaked for half an hour..

Filling a belfast with cola would cost a huge amount of cash.. better a dash of bleach!

  • I wonder if you can help.

I have recently moved into a house that has a Belfast sink in the kitchen.

I have found I regularly struggle to clean a grey residue on the inside of the sink, and wondered if others find this problem and what they use?

I have a standard supermarket own anti bac cleaner, and this just isn't any better than water, but always worked in my previous kitchen.

    Many thanks

I use Milton sterilising fluid or when I run out just bleach on my ceramic sink. I find it the only way to get it really white and sparkling.

My mom used lemon juice in water with a dash of bicarb, nothing more abrasive than that.

I wonder what the grey residue is - limescale?
A cream cleaner is the most gentle but effective way. Bleach should be used sparingly because, once the glaze, has started to go, bleach adds to the damage.
I would think spike7451's mix is much the same as a cream cleaner.
