abbey bank account

I applied approx 6 weeks ago for an abbey account. I havent heard from them, and I emailed them to say I hadnt received any lit. they advised they had been inundated with applications, and to wait a little longer? I think this length of time is a little OTT. Has anyone else applied for an abbey account and is still waiting to hear? I guess they havent sent the forms for signing as I would have received reminders?
