Guys,
want to get more clearity about taking the nationwide debit card for my holidays
because from the posting of martin lewis
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1106765397,71685,
I am a litttle bit unsure about using it for purchasing (see red text).
Nationwide's* debit card is outright winner as it doesn’t load anywhere in the world, is free of interest (unless you’re overdrawn) and doesn’t charge for withdrawing cash. Just to double confirm, the card is the Flexaccount Visa Debit card (the Flexaccount cash card, will allow you to withdraw money from some overseas machines, but won't allow spending).
Get I just the same service - no costs - spending money at the shops like with withdrawals?!
Are there any other hints at the account of nationwide?
So would it be possible to have that account just for the 'holiday card' and pay nothing?!
thx
Ralf

All you need to do when abroad with the Nationwide FlexAccount debit card is to make sure you pay in the local currency.
Some places will try to charge you in sterling and that is when you'll get hit.
If you already have a FlexAccount, Nationwide send out a leaflet at some stage explaining the benefits - I've recently opened one for exactly this reason (best overseas card).0 -
