Getting money back from car dealer...

O.k, not sure on this one so was after some advice.
Back in October I bought myself an 02 astra from the main vauxhall dealer (didnt want to name, but yes the official one) and I was very happy. When we took it for a test drive we quickly put the air con on, thought it felt cold and turned it off.
Then we had winter and I didnt use the air con (although I did make sure it was on at various time to make sure that the gas didnt run out, I know you have to use it or youll lose it).
Come to a few weeks ago and I realise that the air con isnt actually cold. Luckily it was booked in for a service with the vauxhall specialist (not the official dealer) in my area so I asked him to take a look.
After the service he said the condesor was leaking and would need a new one. So decided to get this done, especially with the warm weather we're having.
When I went to pick it up this week I mentioned it was annoying that it worked back then, but not now! He laughed and said there was no way its worked for over a year as the unit had rusted out completely. Theres no way that thing was working when I bought it. Causing me to be miffed.
Then I thought, this was a fault when I bought the car.
If I get in writing from the engineer who fixed my air con, do you think I can claim some money back off the car dealer? I only had a 3 month guarentee but Ive just paid out £300 to fix somthing that should have worked when I bought it and didnt.
Even £100 would help!
Is this worth a try, and am I covered by anything in the SOGA? Im not sure on this, but thought Id ask you guys as your good at this thing

you tested it and were happy with it - did they specifically say that the AC was working? Also doubt that a garage will put their name to something and say 100% that it wasn't working a year ago - how do they know the exact surroundings the cars been kept in etc (which would affect rate of corrosion)0
