Not having a brilliant credit record I went to Moneysupermarket.com and used their 'Smart Search' facility whereby you can get an idea of your credit rating without your credit record being accessed.
They recommended several credit cards I was likely to be approved for as my record was judged 'Fair'
I tried consecutively for two but was turned down for both and now my credit record is on the floor for the two refusals.
'THANKS MONEYSUPERMARKET.COM
I emailed them but they have failed to respond.
Now isn't that a surprise.
That search is not so Smart after all, in fact its been a complete disaster for me

Yes, it maybe only a guide but whats the use if it fails.
Seems to me a very poor guide so others be warned.
Its turned my record from fair to a disaster.
Its probably because of the tightening up thats happened but what a poor site if they cannot reflect the current state of the market.
They need to seriously update their so-called smart search.
And failing to answer my mail isn't that clever either
Worse than useless IMO0 -
It should also be noted that it only uses equifax which for the most part not many companies use exclusivley.
I think barclaycard and the sygma range of cards are the only ones, the rest use experian or both or even the lesser used on callcredit, so as you say not really a good guide at all.

Sorry that it didn't work out for you, but how did it turn your record from fair to disaster? Applying for credit leaves a search on your record but there's nothing to indicate whether the search resulted in an approval or not. If only two searches were done I don't see how it would have damaged your 'score' so badly...0

Don't be to down hearted. DH tried to 'surf' a credit card yesterday to take advantage of a 0% deal. He never ever misses a payment on anything and he got declined. Just the way of the credit crunch at the mo I'm afraid.0 -
Smart search does not do a credit search recorded or unrecorded, it is based on the score criterion from Equifax and is simply a java program that computes an ideal score based on data supplied from you and not a CRA.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0
