On points 3 and 4; these are really covered (by not being covered) by the Banking Code - which is an example of self regulation in lieu of statutory provisions (another recent one being the Faster Payments 'yes you can, no you can't' scheme) For years - centuries even - banks have been able to enjoy a unique relationship with the state rather than be called to account and modernised through legislation.

So I would add: Having a crappy Banking Code rather than a consumerist law that simply makes a lot of current practices illegal
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam
  • What a shame some of the Banks don't understand that they stand to lose customers when they don't treat people fairly.

Looking at some of the poor paying accounts in the marketplace I am gobsmacked that anyone would ever invest their savings in them (e.g. 0.5-2.0%). They are well away from market rates and need to carry a health warning.

Why not have a rule as part of the Banking Code that says any old accounts not currently being marketed must automatically be switched within 12 months to their best paying equivalent account ?

I don't think I could bare seeing Howard off the Halifax adverts every single time an ad break came round - I'd go insane! :rotfl:

  • Having call centres where "your call is important to us" and having to go through about 40 different key presses to then be told the waiting time is approximately 4 years 2 weeks 5 days and 13 minutes.

    But I'm not bitter.
