Notice of termination for 6mth assured shorthold ten. agree.

Options
I want to cancel my rented flat - private landlord - (i.e move out on the 5th November), I started on the 7th of May, so the 7th November is the six month point.

I can't find in the contract how much notice I have to give. All it mentions is "(3.23) To terminate your tenancy after the initial six month period has expired, one month's notice in writing must be given."

I hope it doesn't mean I have to stay for 7 months, presumably I can give 30 days notice for effect on the 7th November.

Yes, if you give your notice right now you can move out after six months.

short answer ,yes you can ,just give him notice that you will be leaving at the end of your tenancy.............................

To terminate your tenancy after the initial six month period has expired, one month's notice in writing must be given."

just means after the initial period of six months you both agree to give 1 months notice ,it doesn't mean you have to give him it after the six months is up

so go ahead and put notice in to end 7th nov

i thought you could give one month's notice to expire at the end of the sixth month, ie 7th oct to leave 7th nov. - sorry, realise people have already said this, but i mean that you can give notice before the end of a fixed term...ie not have to wait until the term has finished. does that make sense.. probably not...

you can just tell your landlord at the end of the 6 months that you're moving out and that's it.

Make sure you take LOTS of photographs of the property and furniture in case of the (almost inevitable) attempts by your landlord to keep some of your deposit for some implausible reason.

but the OP's post said the contract states one month's notice in writing.

by all means take photos, but we don't ALL keep deposits for no reason.....we are not all evil.

the thing is the op doesn't have to but giving notice makes it fair for all concerned and less likely the landlord will hold deposit back (just in case)as things can be checked prior to leaving ,it also gives the landlord fair chance to find another tenant
