Help Needed: Warranty Issue

Does anyone know about warranty law? My sister purchased a replacement laptop power pack from tesco a year last May, and the product came with a 2 year warranty. When she went to return it today as it has broke, she was told that they are not the 'dealer' and cannot give the refund, as it is over 1 year. I said I would try to get a refund for her, (I love arguing with tesco CS staff), and would appreciate if anyone knows what the legal position is. Do I have to go through the manufacturer, even though the warranty says I should us the the dealer, (which is obviously tesco)? Consumerdirect site seems to say I should go through Tesco, not the makers.

Thanks for any advice.

The retailer is wholly responsible as you bought the item from them. You entered into the contract with Tesco. You have no contract with the manufacturer. Go argue with Tesco and have some fun!!

Thanks for the help, I received a refund with only a little hassle. The CS man started to click it was over a year, and was making moves towards suggesting I should see the manufacturer when I pointed out the warranty T&Cs... full refund followed. Best of all, my sister found the same model on Amazon for £28 and free postage, so she's made a tenner out of the whole affair.
