  • soolin - my wording to the buyer was along the lines of "i'm sorry you have not yet received your item, some items sent by RM can take up to 14 working days to deliver (which this one did!!!) so please continue to be patient, I will contact RM and ask what the problem is" not "I'll refund you after 14 days because RM rules say so" and I phoned RM myself at least 6 times asking what was going on. The tracking on the parcel said come back later until the 15th day when it showed as delivered, but the postage label would have told her when I posted it so I don't understand how she can blame me

I dispatched her item 1st class recorded as soon as I could, I don't see why I should have refunded her because the post was slow, and her item did arrive.

The problem is now that buyers have all the bargaining power, it isn't fair but that is how it is. None of us trust anyone anymore, you didn't trust the buyer to repay if the item did arrive and at the same time the buyer didn't trust you to reimburse them promptly enough.

I imagine this scenario will be repeated many times for a number of us sellers and there will be nothing we can do.

  • I do think though that if a buyer agrees to the postal method, in my case I state CLEARLY in my auctions 1st class recorded, then they should agree to the terms of the postage service, ie taking up to 14 days to arrive, it is the buyer after all who pays for postage.

I think too many buyers now are using the "I can neg you if you don't give me what I want - NOW" as leverage and for sellers like me who aren't willing to refund them for no reason it means a big fat neg. I bet in the buyers mind I should have refunded her and let her keep the item as an "apology" for the postage taking so long.
  • I've had a similar experience as a buyer. I bought a CD which took over 3 weeks to arrive; I emailed the seller several times and eventually she replied saying she had been ill & couldnt get out to post it. I didnt think this was entirely fair or reasonable since a CD doesnt always require a special trip to the PO and she could have always asked a friend to do it, being an experienced seller (her feedback suggested) and hopefully knowing how important it is to send things out in a reasonable time frame; and besides the fair thing to do would have been to let me know rather than wait for me to chase her. The thing turned up after 3 weeks, by which time I'd gone right off the idea and just sold it on almost immediately.
My response? NOT leaving feedback, she had the cheek to chase me up & ask me too but I replied that I didnt think 3 weeks was an acceptable time delay for sending a CD and besides, my mother always taught me that if you cant say anything nice about a person then dont say anything at all! I did once leave neutral feedback on another seller (bought a top that arrived wrapped in a carrier bag and reeking of fags) and she responded with such a viscious Neg that it put me off neg-ing anyone for life!

I sold about 15 items beg of June and have had problem buyers with four of them, bad luck maybe but I think I've had it with selling on ebay.

Sorry if this is long winded, but this is a reply I've had from ebay, where I asked them how I could get feedback removed, and also report a problem buyer:

Here's what you can do about the feedback you received:

    1) Add a reply to the feedback
    2) Complete a Statutory Declaration

    - Add a response to the feedback

Most of the time, when members you've never dealt with are deciding
whether to trade with you, they'll read the negative and neutral
comments in your feedback profile. Unfair feedback tends to be easy to
spot, especially if most of your feedback is positive.

By adding a polite and honest response you enable other members to judge
the situation themselves. Here's how to reply to feedback:

    - Complete a Statutory Declaration

Finally, if you feel that a feedback comment you received is defamatory,
we'll remove it if we receive a valid Statutory Declaration confirming
your belief that the comment is defamatory. To find out more, copy the
following link into a new browser window:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/community/png-defam.html

I'm sorry you found the feedback distressing and I realise this may not
be the answer you expected. However, I hope you can understand why we
can't remove the feedback for you.

    Kind regards,

This is just a suggestion that may or may not work... probably not knowing ebay but it may be worth a go.

As you sent the item tracked it should still show up on the royal mail website, and if you still have the stub it will be stamped with the date you posted it. As the buyer has claimed in the feedback that it took three weeks to arrive, did she leave feedback as soon as it arrived? If she left it two weeks after it was posted and claimed it arrived three weeks after it was posted her comment is factually wrong and you have proof this is the case. Maybe that could get it erased?

thanks for your advice but I just can't be bothered with it all! Have complained to eBay but nada has been done. My PO receipt and the tracking all show the date I sent the item, she left feedback exactly 2 weeks after it was posted, when it was received, I think she just did the 3 weeks thing to eggagerate it a bit for some reason. I think thats me had my fill of eBay for a bit as a seller, I have a few new adds to my favourite sellers list though, can't wait til they list some more items! :D
