Getting a tax refund?

Write to HMRC - in my experience they are very good at refunding students who have had income tax deducted. Include a copy of your P45 - the employer will have sent their part to HMRC when you left their employment, so it is not necessary to send the "real" copy, which you may need.
Make sure if you work in future, whilst still a student, that you complete a form P38(S). You can print them off the HMRC website, or the employer can order them, and if they are a large employer they will likely have some anyway! This means that you will not pay tax, even if your weekly / monthly pay exceeds the weekly / monthly tax free allowance. It's primarily designed so that students may work in their holidays, and not have to wait until the end of the tax year to get their tax back. National Insurance you will not get back though.
Edit: you will pay tax if you exceed the yearly allowance though...Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

You must ONLY complete a P38 if you intend to ONLY work during school holidays.
Thats what a P38 is designed for!!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
Completely agree tigtag.
As Driving_Soon is working during term time the P38 is not suitable for him/her. The P38 is only suitable for thos students working during the Summer, Easter or Christmas breaks and who will not go over the personal allowance.0
