How do they reckon that an 'average' savings account has only returned 23.294% over 11 1/2 years? (that's 1.84% pa!) RPI inflation was 36.6% up to December 2007 (so say it's 38.6% today) - which averages 2.88%

My estimate of 'best' rates on savings would be something more like:

 6% (4.8% basic net)
 6%
 7% (5.6%)
 6%
 5% (4%)
 5%
 4.5% (3.6%)
 4.5%
 5%
 5.5% (4.4%)
 6.5% (5.2%)
 7% [5/12ths]

Which equals £1648 approximately (£1862 for non taxpayers)
