Hi All, l was wondering if anyone has an opinion on this. My Dad had his car ran into and the insurance company sent it away to be fixed. On it's return it had 2 dents more on either side so Dad rang the company who denied all knowledge of it and said they were already there. How ever the manager then rang him back and admitted it was their fault, apparently it happened putting it on the low loader when it was being returned. They then collected it and took it back to repair. He then had a phone call from them to say that they could'nt bring it back as the head gasket had gone but their garage could mend it for £600, He really wanted his own mechanic to do the job but his mechanic said it was a reasonable price and with the hassle of getting it bought back he may as well stick to that garage, so he did , then the price doubled to £1200. Dad paid the bill and they bought the car back. Two days later on its first run out it came to a grinding halt. As it was under warrenty for the head gasket it had to go back to that garage, now they are saying something fell into the engine and would cost too much to repair.

Does he have any come back on this company, he doesnt really trust them now as they did lie in the firstplace. He has now paid £1200 for a now useless car.
Any advice would be greatly apprieciated.
Thanks nova.

£1,200 for a headgasket change? What was the car? A W12 Bugatti Veyron?

For most standard cars even £400 is a bit much for a headgasket change.

And "something dropped into the engine" - I assume they mean when they replaced the headgasket, in which case they have admitted liability.

This company definitely needs naming and shaming on the internet for all to see and avoid.

My guess is that as this work was agreed to be paid for outside the insurance repairs, complaining to the insurer might not help - but it's worth a try anyway.

Hopefully some more knowledgeable people will be along soon.

Thanks for that, the car is a kia sedona, and he's always had it regulary serviced and maintained, l feel they've taken advantage, l'll get trading standards on it l think, it's just everything takes so long and in the meantime he's without a car.

It may be a good idea in view of the money involved for you to get an independent Engineers report or an AA/RAC report.

This will then give you a good idea who is at fault and independent ammunition to ask for your money back and compensation.

If by chance he paid the bill by credit card you could complain to the credit card supplier and inform them that this amount is in dispute?
