When I first switch my computer on in the morning there is a clicking sound and a high pitched noise (which is intermittant). The screen goes black rather than the usual windows startup and asks me to insert a startup disk (cant remember the exact words).
If i press restart a few times the noise and clicking eventually go away and the computer loads up as normal. Anybody know what my problem might be here?
Any help much appreciated.

Clicking is generally and indicator of the Hard Disk Drive failing. Add to that it asking for a startup disk then it looks like your HDD is about to fail/failing.
As I assume you are on it now to read this then Backup everything important to something. A DVD/CD, flash memory sticks, or online. There are a few free online backup services. http://skydrive.live.com/ you need to register but it is still quite good. Then take it to a computer repair shop to get it fixed or you may need to have a new HDD.0
