    Well, you never said that your stuff HAD to be out of storage by 1 July, but I think that the rest of your arguments don't hold water. Would it really matter that much if you had a 12 month internet contract and only used it for 11 of them? Anyway, presumably you could have the tenancy agreement changed to 12 months from 1 August instead if you're that worried about it. I know we're all moneysavers here but that's just quibbling over pennies! As for being without the internet for 3 weeks, this smacks of desparation; you're moving in with someone in a place where you're both students and you'll have nothing to do without having the internet at home! For goodness sake, get a grip! University facilities will be available during the holiday and you could also use the library for academic work.

    I hope that you can get this sorted out to your satisfaction but you should really leave some room to manoeuvre; at the moment you're coming across as unreasonable and unwilling to compromise.

    One of my sons is in the same position re moving stuff from storage at other accom into new house on july 1st. If he were in the same position as you re the new house I would advise him to ask if the stuff(which cannot be so much if you have moved from furnished halls)could be moved into a room in the flat.

    This would be a compromise which the present tenant would have to put up with if she wants to stay there longer than her agreed tenancy specifies,and then you could stay at home for another month till August 1st,and obviously not pay rent, or alternatively ask the landlord to let you stay in the other flat rent free.

    Surely as you are moving in with your girlfriend you can entertain yourselves without the net for a month!! The uni facilities will be available if you need a fix desperately.

    You do have the rights on your side but as has been said, goodwill goes a long way, and as long as you are not financially disadvantaged then I would try and help. Particularly as you dont have to be in situ until mid September.

    Not to sound rude but all but most of those things ive already stated i cant do. firstly we have to move in on July 1st, it the only day where we can move all our stuff to the new house, our stuff is in storage at a private uni accommodation so it HAS to be removed by there kick out date (already tried to get it extended and met with a clear no), also we have to purchase the internet and phone on the day we move in because the house is a one year only lease and 90% of them are 12 month contracts. and i realise it sounds a little silly but we need internet for the three weeks, firstly because with out it there is really nothing to do in said city and secondly i require it for part of my course / work. anyway im going to call him on Monday now, forgot it was Sunday and fathers day, im just going to primarily get his position on the whole thing, im not going to do the whole state my rights at him hoping that he will magically fix everything.
    i realise that this isn't ideal - but you have two choices;

    1. come to a solution with the current flat without moving in on July 1st.
    2. find a different flat.

    i would be pushing for solution 1 as it's very late notice to find something else. if you go with poet123's suggestion about moving things into one room (which would make life a lot easier!), then try and get a room that can be locked. as you have been given the option of another flat for three weeks, can't all your stuff go in there anyway?

    you also have to be realistic about the internet - you will never manage to get everything sorted within 3 weeks. they just don't work on that timescale. you need a plan B anyway as you will not have internet within minutes of moving in somewhere new.

    i also suggest that you find something else to do apart from the internet - there can't be nothing else to do and that is perhaps the worst excuse i've ever heard ;). watch tv/dvds, go to the cinema, read a book, take up a hobby, talk to eachother! the world will continue to turn if you don't have access to broadband.

    as this is your first time renting, then i expect the learning curve to be steep. outside of halls things just don't work in the same way and i think you need to change your expectations or this will be a very difficult year for you (dealing with utilities and phone companies in particular!).

    Get the landlord to cough up for storage and the one months wasted internet - there you go, easy solution and tbh if you take him to court for breech of contract he'll end up paying that for your costs anyway.
