i have been asking for information about this debt but they never ever produce anything .i have never acknowledge the debt to them either
where do i stand ??? is this something to do with the limitations act and something to do with statue barred

If it's from 1993 with no acknowledgement by yourself and no CCJ on it, then it will be Statute Barred.

From a previous post of mine (saves typing). ;)
A debt will be "Statute Barred" if there has been no acknowledgement of the debt by you making a payment or in writing within the relevant limitation period.

If you are in England/Wales then the limitation period is 6 years and you should read:

Link: Factsheet | Liability for Debts and the Limitation Act (England/Wales)

If you are in Scotland then the limitation period is 5 years and you should read:

Link: Factsheet | Liability for debts & the Prescription & Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973

If you feel the debt is "Statute Barred", then there is a letter to write at the end of each factsheet.

They have to provide evidence before taking it to court. OK, they could take it to court without, and it would probably bring an end to it in your favour if they did.

And you kept a copy? If you didn't, do it again and keep a copy.

If they take it to court without addressing the point, you can send a copy as part of your defence.

Just don't loose your cool with them :) - They have 99% certain bought your debt for pennies and imagine what a bonus they will get if you cough up £1600 on a debt that might not even be yours!!!!
