Kobe/wagyu beef

Not EXACTLY moneysaving admittedly but hey, I want to give it a whirl. Obviously there are plenty of places online but I wondered if anyone had had any and could recommend a supplier. I really want it to be fully "authentic" wagyu kobe and basically just looking for the best steak I can get!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

    Ah-so!.................
  • Although I have heard of this stuff, I have only ever seen it in one place. Harrods Food Hall.

Must admit I did not buy any as I only go up to the big city maybe once a year and as a humble carer, would not have been able to afford it anyway.

Not sure if this is 'authentic', but Brasserie Chez Gerard have it on their menu, if there's one near you.

Had one at chez gerard (as was cheap compared to other places had seen) and was CRAP. Well, ok, but not special at all. So unremarkable it made me wonder whether the chef was on the fiddle.

  • HI whilst in Dubai,my OH and I decided to try the wagyu,in the Burj al Arab whilst we stayed there, the steak cost a fortune and was Not the best steak we had eaten by far. Very unmemorable, I wished we had saved our money for a steak at our local italian, or from our families butchers shop which would have been m,ore tender and more flavoursome.

Save your money, however if you get the chance to stay at the Burj al arab, wow that is worth a visit!!!

I was in Selfridges Food Hall about 7 years ago they were giving away samples. It was the best steak I ever had. And I'm a steak lover, I search out the best butchers in London and Surrey to find better quality meat.

Wagyu is a type of beef, Kobe beef is Wagyu from a very small part of Japan. Like Champagne. It is only allowed to come from a bullock (that's a bull with no b0llocks) or a virgin cow. THat's the authentic stuff. Most Wagyu in the West comes from Australia or US.

There are even pricier grades of beef available in Japan, such as Matsusaka.

An artistic product with fat distributed finely throughout and a soft taste, Matsusaka beef is made by sparing no pains in the raising of black cows, giving them lots of fodder including tofu lees, ground wheat, etc. making them drink beer when they have no appetite, giving them sunlight baths and massages, and taking them for afternoon walks.

(only from virgin cows that live by the river and listen to music, no that's not a joke.) If you eat it in Japan it comes with the cow's pedigree, and nose print.

They burned through $25,000 of beef in that one episode

    this is the yummiest part
