Birmingham Midshires- blank email?

I am in the process of opening the Birmingham midshires instant access 6.5% account and this morning have been sent an email entitled: "Accessing your savings account for the first time" which when I try to open is blank.

Have any other new account holders had this blank email? I don't think it's a spam email. Is it worth giving them a call do you think?

Thanks

  • This isn't just hotmail blocking the content of the mail is it? Is there an Open Message link near the top if so?

Do you have a mail client that usually reads the e-mails in plain text? When I received that e-mail I didn't get a plain text part of the e-mail, only a HTML message. Is there any way you can get your client to read that (it might be listed as an attachment which could be saved and opened with your web browser).

    Their number is 0845 602 2828 but there's a freephone listed on the saynoto0870 website - 0800 0329127, worth trying that & checking it out, they're open 8:00 to 20:00 today.

This e-mail should most likely be a legitimate one, since you say you have just applied to open an account. It might actually be addressed to you by name, but not necessarily so. Hover over any links in it to see what appears on the greyed information bar at the bottom of Outlook Express. You can use your own judgement and assess this for its legitimacy.

Anyhow, let's assume it is 'legit'....

Assuming you are using Outlook Express...

In the Tool Bar, click on Tools, click on Options, click on Security.

Untick the box in the 'Download Images' section, which is next to

[] 'Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail.'

Click on Apply and then click on OK to close the Options window.

It might now be of help to close Outlook Express and then re-open it. Select the e-mail in question and you should now be able to see the graphic content. You might need to be online to do this.
  • Thanks everyone for your replies. Unfortunately you are all going to want to kick me because on further inspection of the email I have discovered that it is just a very w i d e email and I have found it by paging across the screen!! Doh!

    I'll get my coat....

    Thanks anyway:embarasse

You just beat me to it. Why they issue Emails where the content is off the right hand side of the page defeats me. Just had one for the OH this morning ..... so immediately realised the problem when I saw your heading.

As you've now found out it contains your enabling code for the account. Now you just need to await the letter with your unmemorable username in it !! It's a painful way to open accounts?

Hi everyone, I sent off 2 form of identifications to BM 10 days ago but still haven't yet received any login details.

Can someone please tell me how long does it take to have your account opened at BM? Thanks.

Out of interest, what mail client are people using. As far as I can tell, the HTML for the e-mail involved a block around 500px wide centred in the pane it is being viewed in. A mail client must be interpreting the HTML in quite a silly way to make the e-mail wide.
(this doesn't negate the fact they should have sent a plain text portion of the e-mail)

For what it's worth here's my story - I sent off 2 forms of ID to BM and received them back just on their own exactly 28 days later. This was 4 days ago. My initial cheque has been cleared 13 days ago but as of yet I've received no confirmation of my account being open or what my username is to be able to log on!
