faulty watch in guarantee - Next wont do anything?

My hubby bought me a watch from Next for £30 just under a year ago. The watch had a two year guarantee. The watch is faulty, one of the catches has broken which means that as it is a bangle style watch, it digs into my wrist. Pretty hard to explain, but noticably faulty when looking at it.
I took it back to Next and asked if it would be possible for an exchange. I did, however, explain I didn't have the receipt (think I threw it away during my house move in December - silly I know). I also made it clear I was not looking for a refund. They said that the watch was reduced to £4 and I was therefore only entitled to a credit voucher or exchange for this amount.
Does anyone know what my rights are? Is this correct? Am I only entitled to £4 exchange value? I don't necessarily want a watch for £30, but just a new one that isn't fauly, whether it costs £10 or £20, I'm not bothered.
Please advise?
Thanks
Jen

Do they have the watches in stock for £4. If they do then you know what to do.Bought, not Brought0

do you have a bank/card statement as an alternative to the receipt. if so, then they must offer you either an exchange or refund for the original amount you paid.0

without proof of purchase the are perfectly within their rights to refund/exchange at the last selling price.
as bamber said, would it not be less hassle just to buy a new one at £4??0 -
hi guys, thanks for the reply
they dont have them in stock anymore and bought by cash, so cant take a statement
oh well, never mind, suppose i cant do anything, my own fault for not keeping the receipt safe!0 -
i had a whole mess when h samuels wouldn't do anything even when i had my reciept (casio lost my watch and they wouldn't refund or give me another one) eventually got a refund after speaking on phone to store manager, went round the corner to river island, bought one for £15 in the sale. if next sold a watch for £4 i would buy it just as a spare lol (would take on holiday and wear on beach- if it gets sand in and wrecked its £4 lolthings arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

Or be really MSE (like I was) and buy one off ebay that just needs new batteries. I got three for 99p + P&P and it cost £1 for the batteries for them. Ideal for work/beach etc."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
