1st year nursing hours?

Options
Can anyone here tell me roughly how many hours a week you are in uni or on placement every week, during first year? a rough estimate is fine :)

Also, does the bursary affect tax credits? And would CSA Payments affect the dependants allowance of the bursary? (in scotland if it makes a difference)

  • Hi there,

i qualified 2 years ago and i did the degree. I think I spent roughly 30 hours a week on placement, normally you do the shift your mentor does (but they are quite flexible).Lectures are about 9 til 4, sometimes a bit earlier.

I don't know if the bursary affect the tax credit, i did not qualify for one.

    good luck to you

    Hi

I don't think the bursary affects your tax credits...well my pgce one didn't :)

When I phoned tax credits they told me all bursaries and loans are not taken into their calculations, only earnt income...

The bursary doesn't affect tax credits.

My wife does 35hrs p/w on placement (Northumbria Uni)
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

It's 'tax' credits, only taxable income affects it.
  • My dd does 5 shifts a week on placement, either 7.30 til 15.30 or 13.30 til 21.30
  • Im at Oxford Brookes and Id say im doing 37 hours per week when in placement but I oftern have essays to do at the same time.

Some of our course time we are in uni 2 day from 9 till 4/5/6 pm and on placment 3 days per week.

I have found that not all placements are not all that flexabledont get me wrong some are. But most are this is the nursing shift and if you cant do them then your in the wrong job ( and they want nurses ) some say well we just stay late because its not a job its a vocation.

My tax credits were not effected by my bursey or loan

different unis do different things, mine was 30 hours a week and 1 study day a week when on placement (alternating between uni and private study - aka day to do a bank shift)

However I know the first years now do 37.5hours a week on placement and every 5 weeks have an extra study week.

While in theory blocks it was 9-4, 4-5 days a week
