Acer aspire laptop problems

Options
I bought mine from Comet in August. A month ago it kept restarting on it's own while I was using it then it just went dead. We took it to Comet who returned it to Acer. A week later it came back exactly the same. We took it to Comet and it was sent back to acer again. After a week my husband started ringing Acer. For two weeks they denied having it. Then someone said it had been lying around but there was no name to it. Then it was with the workshop being repaired. Latest!!! it has gone back to Comet as the serial number does not match something or other. Still not repaired. We have spent hours and a lot of money ringing them. We can't get through to any complaints or anyone who will take responsibility. They are a nightmare. No one will call back, they tell lies. I have had no laptop for a month and am at my wits end. I did send an email to their homepage but they are only interested in sales, got no reply. I am stressed out

You need to be speaking to Comet about this. You purchased it from them, so they are ones responsible for fixing it.

Ive got the same laptop by the sounds of things and it does the same kind of thing - wont go on standby when i want it to and then when im using it, it just turns itself onto standby lol.....I didnt bother contacting comet as the warrenty had just run out - its annoying but after reading what your going through, im glad i didnt bother !!!!!!!! But if I had taken it back to them and was going through the hoops you are, id be threatening them now with some kind of office of fair trading or similar action.....if they cant fix it, surely you are entitled to a new replacement - good luck

What you want to do is either go into the store where you got it from and make a scene until you get answers or you contact the chief exec if there is on and ask him to sort it out,

The expected lifetime for a laptop is IMO at least 3-4 years the warranty doesnt matter you need to go to comet and speak to a manager and say you are not happy that it stopped working. (Im assuming of course you just had the standard 12 month warranty)

In theory you have case for them to repair or replace the laptop even after the warranty, do some more research on this issue. As an example just this morning i watched a guy get Sony/Curry's? to replace a 42 inch TV that failed after 18 months that had a 12 month warranty.

Thank you for the support. I am going into Comet tomorrow and if I don't get anywhere I will be contacting Consumer Rights and Trading Standards. It is just the hassle and aggravation I could do without. Plus I have no laptop while they are all supposedly sorting things out. I will never buy another Acer. One of the guys at the workshop actually did say they are notorious for going into sleep mode when in use!!!! and he works for them
