Update - she got it done in Westport bodypiercing place yesterday, the guy was really good with her, spent a lot of time getting the marks just right, the chair had a fresh paper cover on it, saw him putting on clean gloves etc., everything was set out on a fresh piece of towelroll stuff.

They are not allowed to pierce under 12s, so she had to get guns.

Her face was a picture  just like this emoticon really , but she didn't cry, and was very happy to have it done at last.

The redness wore off after about 3 hours, was a bit irritated for about the same amount of time.
Today she says there is no pain at all.

MSE info - £20 for gem studs, £15 for gold or silver.Aftercare solution included. Claire's is £22 for same package.

fwiw, the guy said Claire's have no license, think it's an admin error, so they were up trying to rent a room from him to do ears. He politely declined and is quite happy to take their extra business!

Glad you got it done in West Port-the same guy did a piercing for me, and I couldn't agree more about how he operates.

I'd not go near Claire's for piercing when I see the "children" they have doing it, and sitting in a shop window isn't exactly conducive to good hygiene practice

I would have to agree with criticism of Claires - my daughter (then 9) had her ears pierced at the Dunfermline store in June 2007. We looked after them scrupulously, went back for the 6 week check and all seemed well..............until early August when they turned septic - bleeding and full of pus:eek:. I took her to Claires when they started going mildly "funny" and the assistant wouldn't even look at them and said to take her to the doctor if we were concerned. It took two courses of antibiotics from the GP to clear the infection up and, of course, the studs were removed - about £30 down the drain with all the solution we bought!

Unfortunately, the pain and discomfort caused must be a bit like childbirth because she now wants them done again and seems to have forgotten just what an awful experience it was:confused:!

As an aside the piercer in Claires got the marks wrong and one earring was noticeably lower than the other. I was too squeamish to watch so hubby had taken her - he was asked to check the marks but typically didn't notice.........

Now DD has had it done there, I'd thoroughly recommend going to a real piercing shop, the place I went were happy to answer e-mails etc. before we went, and couldn't have been nicer.

It did look very clean too, piercing was in a room where passersby couldn't see in, but didn't have a door on either, so it still felt nice and open.

And you get a lolly if you don't scream( but I suspect you still get one even if you do cry a bit;))
