Anyone know of a decent jewellers or body piercing studio in Dundee where my DD can have her earlobes frozen before they're pierced, I wouldn't let her get them done without being frozen first.

thanks in advance.:D

Most places only use the anti-bacterial wipes.. don't know about the frozen though. Its not that sore more like a nip! Best place would probably be Claire's accessories in either the Wellgate or Overgate, bit more dear but least its nice and clean :j

Most proper piercing places will give you some xylocaine or whatever if you ask them.

Don't claire's etc use a gun for piercings, and do it in the main shop, hardly a sterile environment...
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Yes Claires do it in the main shop with guns, what you can ask for is two assistants so both ears are done at the same time.

It doesn't hurt too much at the time, as mummyof1 says, more like a nip. Getting a needle local anaestetic would be just as sore i'd say as the actual piercing. and if done with 2 gins at the same time it's no bother!

The sorest part is afterwards for a couple of days... but even then it's not bad.

My 7 yo had hers done and survived... how old is your DD?

You could buy the pretties from claires and take them to a tattoo parlour/piercing shop if you really wanted them numbed first.... i'm sure they would do that. Ask at the peiercing place first as they may not stock run of the mill studs etc. good luck!!!

As a veteran of many many piercings, can I just beg you not to get it done anywhere that uses a gun?
If you do some reading around, you'll find that, on the whole, guns cause a lot of problems and pain, as they crush the earlobe and are generally not as clean as you'd think.
On top of this, 'freezing' can slow the body's healing time and in extreme cases cause rejection of the stud.
Whe you think about how few blood vessels there are in the ear, you'll see how healing and cleanliness (both easier to cope with when there's more blood going to the injury) need to be increased by any means possible. Ears are actually more painful and slower to heal than, say, a nipple, due to having a smaller blood supply!
I would seriously recommend finding a reputable body piercer (they'll often have a lot of certificates and a clean waiting room) and get it done with a needle. They're faster and less painful than guns and heal quicker too. It's strange to think of a person with lots of metal in their face as being better than a nice lady in a hair dressers, but when you spend your days putting needles in people's genitals, you need to be very skilled! :rotfl:
Look for things like a clean yellow sharps bin, fresh gloves used between preparing equipment and touching your daughter, tidy, washable surfaces and floor and neeled in sealed medical packs. And always ask to see their piercing room before commiting to anything.
Basically, if you'd be happy to have a tooth out there, or blood taken, it's probably up to standard.
Unfortunately, there's not much regulation, so try your local environmental health department (they usualy visit to check they're not using kebab sticks and will know who's good and who's not), and ask around friends/friendly people with facial piercings. Hope that helps.

When my dd was having her ears pierced a couple of years ago in Dundee, NONE of the piercing studios would do a child under 16, regardless of whether there was a parent there.

IF you can talk them into doing it, I'd thoroughly recommend the West Port Piercing Studio-I had something ;) pierced there and the place is spotless-I had no problems at all

The gins would need to be VERY large before I'd get anything pierced:D:rotfl:

Thanks for all your replies - I only just noticed this thread has come alive, after writing it off!

West port will do piercing, but not anaesthetic, was thinking maybe a bit of germolene beforehand would dull the pain a bit.

I e-mailed West Port, they were very helpful, and although the website doesn't make it clear, they do earlobes for the over 5s.

My DD is 9, and has been warned she will not be allowed to walk around with one ear done and not the other, so she has to decide whether she really really wants it or not.Bless her, she's desperate to have them done.

If she is old enough to want and have her ears pierced then she is old enough to have the pain that goes with them. As has been said the pain isn't that bad, be honest with her how sore it will be beforehand that's what my mum did with me.
