Hi,

My mind tends to wander............If found please return;)

I always say in normal circumstances, expect to re plaster every 20 - 30 years. Obviously if you are having extension/building works done, then it is sooner. If you are having a tiler in, ask him to inspect the walls and tell you if they need plastering. Some tilers will adjust the tiles with adhesive so they give an even finish even if the walls are in poor condition. But this will cost more. Some tilers will only want to work off flat walls. If the plaster is 'live' ie hollow, it will need replastering regardless. There are no hard and fast rules. If you are tiling yourself, I suggest you need flat walls.
