credit card and ebay?

this may be a silly question but if i buy an item that is worth more than £100 on ebay and pay by credit card and i dont recieve the items am i covered by the consumer credit act that makes the credit card company jointly liable??

If the seller has a feedback rating of 50+ you qualify for paypal buyer protection, up to the value of £500.

Saying that, I bought an item from an american seller last year, and when the seller refused to send the item, I contacted barclaycard who refunded me. That was for about £125.

Paypal did not refund me because I waited more than one month from the date of sale before filing a claim with them.

I don't believe that you are strictly covered by the CCA protection if you pay via paypal or some similar company, by credit card.

My logic is that you aren't buying the goods on the credit card - you are buying credit with paypal on the credit card. Paypal aren't the ones defrauding you, but the supplier.

It isn't logically fair for the credit card companies to be liable for scabby ebay fraudsters - they are liable for suppliers which they (or other members of their payment organisation e.g. VISA) have authorised after doing appropriate checking and taking appropriate guarantees. None of these things apply if you buy, via paypal, using a card.

I suspect that Barclaycard paid up because of some other "internet purchase" guarantee or out of goodwill.
