DVD RW drive not working

Hi experts

This is me >>>> :confused: so please speak in words of one syllable!

My fairly new laptop DVD drive isn't reading discs. It clicks and whirs for a bit, then asks me to insert a disc. Is this something I can cure myself or is it back to the shop?

    What discs are you putting in and what kind of drive is it?

    We tried everything -but then we tried the old "turn it off and on again" trick, and it works now!

    Sometimes what you can do is open the tray and clean the little round glass bit with a cotton bud. Especially useful if you smoke as it takes off any layers of grease. Just lay the tip of the cotton bud on it and whilst applying a very gentle pressure, rotate the cotton bud. Far better than any CD lense cleaner.
