I have just got in from shopping, whilst out I saw several petrol stations with very long queues.

From what I heard it was drivers from one company (Shell) who are on strike not everyone!

What is wrong with these people do they have brains the size of peas?

If these people had half a brain they would realize it's people like them that could cause a shortage. They are just playing into the tanker driver hands!
  • Bear in mind that some tanker drivers from other companies may refuse to cross a picket line.

you say all these people filling up are stupid...so lets say you usualy fill up on sat/sunday and you see massive queues firday . you need that tankfull to get to work next week, if you dont turn up at work next week you lose pay/get sacked and cant pay the rent

doesnt strike me as stupid to try and cover yourself best you can

its the press that causes it all , hyping things up

I heard that this is indeed the case, but I do not know how the distribution of petrol works.

Will the striking people only be at Shell refineries or do they share facilities with other oil companies? This could be a picket line problem. Or are they also picketing outside other companies refineries?

The ESSO near me in Leeds at 11pm lastnight was all shut up except for Super 98 fuel.

Yes I agree it is the press and tv, but it's also the greedy tanker drivers starting the panic!

It's still panic buying for the sake of panic buying!

so its safe to say then that people do not trust gordon and company when they say its all under control. . This why there are que's al over the country.
  • Shell refineries don't just supply Shell stations - they'll supply anyone who wants to buy from them. That includes any independent stations, supermarkets, whoever you like really.

Its on NW tonight on the BBC now - not a single HGV has crossed the picket line, Shell or not.

This is a dispute between a private company and its staff.

Because the spare volume in half-empty car tanks is greater than the volume in filling stations, an apparent shortage can be caused merely by people panicking into buying earlier than normal.

That has nothing whatsoever to do with trusting the Government, who do not organise fuel supplies.
