I've come across this scenario a few times, and the chances are that the pull switch has burned the contacts within the switch itself,or the wire(s) that are connected to the switch have not been tightened enough causing a little burning and arcing which would cause your fusebox to trip ,you can normally see this by removing the switch cover (with the mains switched off!!:D) and looking at the wires,if they look burned or melted then that's where your problem is,and all you'll need is a new switch and the burnt portion of wire cutting back and refitting, good luck!
if you are not confident with electricity then don't attempt to repair it yourself.
