barclaycard BT

ouch,
April 30th I paid off my balance on my Barclaycard and on 2nd May did a BT which almost max'd it out again but at the LOB low interest rate.

Now i find Barclays took some of that huge payment and took it off the BT leaving me a standard balance of some 600 quid attracting monthly interest. Phone calls just tell me i should have waited for a statement of 00.00 balance before doing a BT and theres nothing they can do about it. My argument is the Balance was 00.00 before the balance transfer and they shouldnt have then put the 600 quids worth of purchases Back on the card after they'd been paid.

anyone got comments ??

you won't like this but there's not a lot you can do...however you can ask that they "crystallise" the debt at 6.9% as you won't be spending on the card again...it's been done before so there's a chance for you....

Others will stress the importance of not spending on a BT card but unfortunately the timescales were against you on this one as you'd already done the spending but it had not "hit" the card yet...

    good luck

    hi Bismark,

Yes the spending had allready hit the card, no purchases were made after mid april and the sum of money i sent cleared the card with nothing left to be added. I waited till all april purchases were showing on the transaction list before sending the balance payment. Balance available to me after i paid it off was the full credit card limit. As shown on the site so nothing was a pending transaction.

Thats why i was so annoyed. But thanks for the tip re-crystallising the standard balance, thats a last resort :)

    Magic,

Just spoke to Barclaycard again and they have agreed to crystallise that standard balance at 6.9% just as you said Bismark. Thanks a lot if I were female I could fall in love with you.

    thanks...I'm really glad it worked!

"thankfully" I'm male or Mrs Bismarck might have had something to say.....you should have seen her shift when I mentioned your post!! :D

was it a tricky conversation with Barclaycard or did "crystallise" press the right buttons?

So what was the difference between when you spoke to them and they said there was nothing they could do and when you spoke to them and they agreed to what you asked for?

And as to the original problem, I guess they allocate payments at the time of the statement rather than at the time when they were made.
I've often heard people say wait until you get your statement showing zero before doing a transfer but have always just assumed that meant to confirm it was zero and that confirming that online would be good enough. Looks like I was wrong.

    Well done for sorting it.

Thanks guys and yes Bismark I did ask the nice man, very very nice man if he would "chrystallise" the standard balance at 6.9%. He went off to consult with his supervisor and then said yup they would do that :) Incidentaly have you noticed the 0800 number on the statement to query it ? beats the 0845 offering of customer services. God I should change my middle name to Ebenezer.
Regarding the different attitude, and I'm not racist but the 0845 number gets you a western oriental person and the 0800 gets you to what must be the bean counter department.

there are some people who are on your wavelength when you call and you really feel you can get the result you're after when you speak to them..then again there are some who can just make things worse and at best, leave you guessing as to what you've probably agreed to.......
