Hello,
I just wanted to ask for some advice please? I had a shower fitted yesterday and now i have a crack in my bath. There was always a mark there but now since i had the shower fitted its cracked (the blokes were standing in the bath to fit the shower etc. Where do i stand on this? I've rang the person who fitted the shower and left a voicemail for him But not sure where i stand as there was always a mark there, but it was never cracked and leaking.
Hope i've posted on the right board?
Thanks,
Michelle.

Should be there responsibility to replace. If they have the right insurance they should be covered for damage to your property. Proving the crack wasnt already there could be the trickiest bit - depends how glaringly obvious it is i suppose.Try not to get angry when you talk to them though ...better to be calm and firm and accept that accidents do happen. If they are decent tradesmen hopefully they'll hold their hands up.
If you have no joy with them then i'd ask your insurance company as you might be covered. If you have to foot the repair bill yourself it will cost you a few hundred quid for a standard new acrylic bath plus plumbing costs on top of that.

Hiya Andy,
Thanks for your advice. I'm still waiting for him to come round, he was supposed to be here between 4 and 5.
One problem is though, i don't have any insurance

The hardest part is proving beyond reasonable doubt that the tradesman caused the damage. I don't mean to pry but are you sure you don't have insurance? This will come under Buildings Insurance and not Contents Insurance.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Hiya, My landlord will probably have it, could he use that even though i live here?0

Yes your L/L will have it. I wouldn't mention the tradesmen in your bath. Baths cracking is not uncommon, so let the insurers pay for it. Your L/L will have to pay an excess, but that's one of the risks of owning houses to rent.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Did your LL pay for the shower to be fitted or have you gone ahead and had this work done yourself without him being aware?
Either way, you should tell your LL what has happened asap and sort it out with him/her. The LL SHOULD be insured for this kind of thing, but don't take it for granted.
PS Phill is right...least said to the insurers as to how this happened the better. If I was your LL I'd be chasing the fitters/plumbers for recompense0
