Hi there, didnt know where to put this one but this seemed to be the most appropriate ?
Anyway some time ago I started receiving mail addressed to someone else at my home (same first name & obviously the address but different surname), to start with I just ignored them as junk & threw them in the bin. Until they started to arrive more frequently with the same senders address on the back & so I opened it to find out what it was. Turned out that it was a company stating that they had taken over my debt & I must pay them in full & failure to pay will affect my credit etc etc . . .
Needless to say I was a tiny bit miffed by this as for the past few years after being a single mum not working & then getting a job last year I am now nearly debt free, as the person the mail is addressed to is not me (& I do not have a debt as large as this £5203.17?) I sent them a letter stating that I am not this person & also enclosed photocopies of my birth cert, driving licence & warrant card, all to no avail it would seem as they are still sending the demands for payment, what can I do, any help would be apreciated.

What is the name of the company?
I get the feeling you think you may have some outstanding debt that you thought was forgotten, otherwise why not ignore it?0 -
Warrant card? Are you a serving police officer?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

If its not you and its not even your name then return them unopened saying not known at this address!"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Thanks for the replys. Yes im a active special constable & also now work in housing, I dont have any outstanding debt that I hoped would go away & the only reason I think im letting it worry me is ive not long come out of hospital after spending 5 days in intensive care & this added stress is the last thing I need ! I just wondered if anyone had had similar experience & knew what to do to stop correspondance coming to my home ? The company's name is LINK Financial, if everyone thinks the best course of action is to just ignore it then thats what i'll do.
With Thanks.0 -
Could you speak to The Office of Fair Trading for advice on what to say to them (or report them) if they continue.Have you tried a follow -up phone call them to ask if they received the documentation you sent, and why they are continuing to write to you.
As long as you are absolutely sure you have no debt with them (smaller debts could grow quickly with them)0 -
Just cross out the address on the unopened envelope, and write "return to sender, not at this address" on it.
If they STILL keep arriving, then phone them up and tell them there is no one of that name at the address.
I wouldn't worry about a debt that's not even in your name. The debt collection company are probably just clutching at straws by sending it to that address.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
As others have said, return the mail unopened with 'Not at this address' on the front. To be honest, you should do this anyway with any misaddressed post, as I am not sure it is legal to just dispose of mail addressed to someone else.0
