Buy a proper watch that doesn't take batteries!

Why is that the first battery in a watch always seems to last for ages (I have got up to 5 years) whereas a replacement rarely lasts more than 1-2 years?

The best watch I have is a Rolex look-a-like (pisses a mate of mine off because it looks identical and keeps far better time than his rolex). I paid under £10 for it at Index about 6 years ago and have only just replaced the battery. I bought it because I didn't want to take my good watch on holidays so take the cheapie instead.
