Surplus Tomato Plants

I have surplus tomato plants, that freecycle will not let me list! They are gardeners delight and moneymaker.

I don't want to compost them, so if anyone here is interested, please PM me!

I am in the Manchester area.

    Hi Louise,

It's awful when you have too many plants and can't bear to kill them isn't it.

Someone on my local freecycle put a in request for seedlings to get her started and a number of people replied. As there was so much interest she suggested that we all met and swapped what we didn't need. This has proved to be very successful and the group have met a few times at local garden centres and we've off-loaded what we had too much of and all gained some lovely plants. Would your freecycle allow you to ask for seedlings?

If we're still in touch next year our small group are hoping to plant a few veg each and then swap for other varieties.

I'm surprised freecycle wouldn't let you list - I've often got and given away plants and seedlings. Ask the moderator why they're doing that, I can't see any problem!

    Hi there

I had the same problem...planting extra seeds thinking "well they won't all germinate" but they did :rotfl:
Couldn't bare to kill them ...so ended up with 10 big buckets extra.. plonked em in thinking hmmm might not survive... but they have :T ok im running out of space to stand them..as the tomato plants get bigger im having to spread them out further around the garden.... but im sure the tomatoes won't be wasted

    Hi there folks
We have at least 50 tomato plants in the greenhouse and the rest we have planted in the garden , we just went mad this year and all the toms came up but we have moneymaker, and sub arctic plenty, and large plum toms and yellow plums and beef tomatoes and a jumbo tomato and a few totem plants outside and a few bush tomatoes so if anyone has any recipes for chutney I would be grateful

I didnt want to throw any away and see what happens

Have you asked any of your neighbours or work colleagues if they want them? You will be surprised by how many people are growing their own this year.

I am suprised at your freecycle, often on my local freecycle people are 'offering' extra plants / veg / toms etc.

I would suggest going back to freecycle and asking the mods why they have that policy.

Do you know why Freecycle won't let you list them  I gave away loads of garden plants last year and was given tomatoes, aubergine and several flowering anuals.

Agreed. My colleague brought in a few spare plants.. runner beans and toms and they all went the first day. I've bought a few small plants that are ready to pot on from a day centre I visit and they sell them for 50p each.

I have been weeding around my veg patch to-day and most of the "weeds" were tomatoes,Dozens of them, thats home composting for you.If I had known they were going to come so well I could have saved time and money by not growing them in the green house.
If you think this has helped make my day and hit the thanks button:beer:
