Amending a Travelodge booking?

I have a couple of travelodge bookings from the £9 offer that we won't be able to use after all. Our reasons don't fall within the cancellation insurance, and if we cancel outright we loose the mney paid for meals too, so I was wondering about passing them onto family instead.
I've seen that you can amend bookings, and it appears that you can change the number of people in the room etc, but can anyone confirm whether or not by doing this you loose the £9 deal - ie, that you would be expected to pay the normal room rate etc. I wondered as the button at the bottom of the amendments screen doesn't say something like 'confirm' but instead says 'check availability', which suggests they treat it as a new booking.
I don't want to try it in case anything goes wrong.

I have changed the number of people in the room on mine and it seems to have worked ok. The booking system put it in as 1 person, I went through the process and changed it to 2 adults, the rate stayed the same.
It comes up as 9 pounds again on the final page but doesnt ask for payment, it goes straight to confirmed and it hasnt charged my card again so I assume you will be ok.0 -
