Giving up unleaded
Holeypockets
We have had the giving up booze posts.
We have had the giving up fags posts.
Well I am starting this post (after a quick search and not finding any other) on giving up something much more expensive.
Welcome to the Giving up Unleaded post (Diesel also applies)
I intend start using my push-bike or walk anywhere possible.
I will be hard because work is 8 miles away and mostly uphill - but I have set the target of cycling to work during the summer holidays (when the kids don't need picking up from school). It will also be good exercise.
My monthly fuel spend is approx £80 and it would be great to even half that.
I have already made a start by cutting out driving to the local shops - I now do it by bike.
Is anybody else up for logging their progress on this post?

My car is economical, I don't buy my own petrol my OH pays for it when he comes to visit:j Plus, I always use my local BP garage which seems to be cheaper even than Morrisons plus I get my nectar points.
If I want to go into the city centre, my car stays at home and I may either take the train £2.90 cheap day return or if I have to travel before 9.30am then I get a £3 daysaver on the bus:j0 -

Oooh - I'll join you!!
Have walked to work twice this week - partly to help with wieght loss but mainly to save money on fuel usage.

I am going to join in!! I have just started a car share with my friend who lives a mile away from me for work. Unfortunately I can't cycle in to work as it's over a 35 mile round trip with many dual carriageways (and I also don't have a bike!! ), but doing the car share will mean I can cut my fuel bill nearly in half.
I am also making a point of not driving to the shops.... I live a long way away from my family - 120 miles - so that will inevitibly run up the fuel bill - but instead I am going to invite them to mine more often so I don't have to make the trip down there as much! Paying off in 2009::beer:

Good to see people joining in.
I reckon a few more might be forced to join if the tanker strikes progress.
It is said that the short journeys are the ones that cost the most - just nipping up to the local shops for instance. I reckon each time I take my bike instead I must be saving at least 50p worth of petrol and burning off a calorie or two instead.
Good luck everyone0 -
really chuffed - we got a new starter at work yesterday and he lives about 1 mile from me (even closer to where im moving to soon!) so i'm gonna suggest car sharing once they have settled in!Aug £10 a day £0/£10000
