Rebuild garage £4500

I have been told I can get my garage replaced for just over £4500. The bulid will involve removing the existing garage - attatched to the house and runs the lengh of the house, replacing the floor due to damp problems, building a new wall as the existing party wall is rotten with damp, build the garage including sloping roof, garage doors a window, new door from kitchen into garage, door garage into garden and finally plumbing in water and electrics so I can put my washing machine and tumble dryer in the garage. Apparently the labour is free as he knows my OH though work and 'his lads are on a slow time' waiting for all the schools to close for the summer. (The builder is a contractor who does the building work at local schools)

Is £4500 fair for this amount of work? I am going to get it on paper if it is a fair amount as I am not going to pay any more!

About 10 years ago I paid £9000 to have a double garage built. That was foundations, concrete floor, single skin brick walls and a flat roof attached to the side of my house. So I would say that sounds pretty damn good to me assuming it is a brick garage.

EDIT: The above included garage doors and a door into the garden, but I supplied and fitted the door from the hous einto the garage and also did the electrics and plumbing for the washing machine etc.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • I'd snap his hand off.I work in the trade and have pulled in every favour i could for my garage build and doing most of the donkey work myself.Already gone well past 2k and the walls aren't finished yet,no floor,no roof,no electrics, just a nearly completed shell.Sounds like a bargain to me.

    Not forgetting doors and windows.
