what do I do with my savings?

I have £50,000.00 in a savings account and am getting married in two weeks!
My wife to be works as well as myself and we are entitled to a small amount of tax credit which we will lose soon as my wife to be will be fully qualified in her line of work.
We are both concerned about my savings account and would like to know if we can 'lose' it for now without paying any kind of taxes etc!
I'm quite happy to use the money but my wife to be has children from a previous relatonship (without any maintenance) and is adament that the money was there before her and wants it to stay that way!!
What do I do?
