Online Pawn Shop

A tip for some quick cash - i sold some old bits of 9ct gold jewllery online.

Process was dead easy and got £60.00 the next day.

The company was called www.upawnit.co.uk and click on their sell gold banner. I was only going to chuck it at some time!!!!

Comments

  • Firstly, nobody knowlingly "chucks" gold away.

Secondly with due respect, their buying price will be terrible.

You must have had a LOT of 9ct gold to get £60 from an online pawn shop or even a real one.

There are few countries that even regard 9ct as gold at all.

Dont know if it has escaped your attention, but the chat/advice here is about Credit Card's, not Pawn Shop's or the scrap value of Gold........

The website looks very amateurish - could Anthony1 be trying to drum up some business for his POBox-based company? UPawnIt.co.uk - perhaps its more like UTakeThePi**Anthony1ByTryingToGetSomeFreeAdvertising.co.uk.

I agree about the site being very amateur, but the sad thing is they've actually paid a company to come up with it!

At the bottom of the site it says 'Site Design MBR'. I'm no expert when it comes to website design but I reckon I'd be able to come up with something more professional than that in less than an hour.

I wouldn't feel comfortable charging anyody for something so badly done, let alone promote the fact that I was the one to do it!

I agree this is spam and as such this thread is likely to be removed. However, before that happens just in the extremely unlikely case that anybody is actually thinking of using this site or any like it, maybe the following will help.

Consumer Direct information on pawn broking:

    http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/before_you_buy/thinking_about/pawn-broking/

Is the site even legal? After all, it's basically selling a loan with 'gold' held as a guarantee, yet it quotes absolutely no interest rates at all on it's website. In fact, you have to send off the gold before you even get to see interest rates or what's likely to be in the credit agreement etc.

On the site there's a link to another company/website called 'paydaymoney' which has the same PO Box address listed. That site actually does give interest rates 'Typical APR 2229.8%'.

MBR (who created both sites) have actually done another amateur thing and registered the domain names under what could be either a home address or an office address, not the PO Box quoted on both websites. So, if anybody wants to see where both businesses are physically located it's fairly easy to find out.

I'm not sure if it's just me but whenever I see somebody posting spam on here I get curious as to who it could be.

If a spammer is stupid enough to think posting on this site is going to fool anyone into using their services then chances are they're stupid enough not to take steps to hide who they are.

Using well known websites that list information available to anyone in pulic, the following became known in less than 10 minutes:

    1. The site owners' name.
    2. Their address.
    3. Their wife's name.
    4. Both their ages.
    5. They're both Directors of a company (it would be easy to check which company/companies, chances are it's Payday Money Ltd)
    6. Although this isn't definate the person's name isn't particularly common so chances are it's the same person - a wish list in the same name as the site owner added a music album by Allan Sherman "My Son, the Greatest".

I'm not giving out any details, but all that information is freely available using public records and/or a search engine.

It's quite amazing really just how much information there is on the web about each one of us.
