If you get working tax credit you can claim other things (free prescriptions, dental care, glasses etc) you can also get much reduced fees on adult education causes, help with insulating your home (warmfront), vouchers for school uniform, free school meals etc if you are on working tax credit. If your income is low enough to get council tax benefit you should check if you are entitled to working tax credit too, as this seems to entitle you to claim the other allowances aboveMFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year.
