Credit rating...on the way up, but still a mess!

Morning folks,

As a result of a number of factors, my credit file and score are a shambles, so I'm trying to sort them out a bit. :)

I know that the "credit scores" don't really mean much, however they are a quantifiable measure of improvement, therefore I'm focussing on them to see how much my file is improving in the eyes of the CRA's and checkmyfile.

Last month, according to check my file, my scores were;

Experian - 177
Call Credit - 423
Equifax - 368

And this month, they're

Experian - 177
Call Credit - 423
Equifax - 445

So, as you can see my Equifax "score" has improved slightly over the course of a month. In the past month, I have been approved for a catalogue credit account (Grattan) and have placed an order and then made a payment. This new account shows up on my Equifax report, along with a green mark for payment. :D

My main concern is that my Experian score has remained the same for the past 3 months, and has no record of any accounts etc.

My call credit and Equifax reports show my current account, telephone account and equifax now shows my catalogue account. Has something gone amiss here, that Experian seem to think I have no credit record?

Also, how much of a difference will being on the electoral register make to the scores? I've sent the form off, but don't seem to have been added to the register yet at my home address. (Although I am recorded as being on the register still at my parents address)

Would the Cash Plus credit builder help to improve my scores at all?

Oh, and one last question, I've had a few changes of address and was a victim of identity fraud a year or so ago, which left a default on my file. Would a notice of correction help at all, or would this be viewed as adverse by potential lenders?

Many thanks. :)

I wouldn't go off these scores personally as every finance house has their own score criteria.

  • I realise they don't mean much, however they are surely a measure that my record in general is improving or otherwise?

My main concern is the lack of any data with Experian, as I know a lot of lenders use them...

not being on the electoral roll and having a default are pretty serious issues

if you were the victim of identity theft then why is there a deafult on your record?
