current account vs. credit card

Hi, natwest keeps telling me that i cannot get credit from them. I went to another branch and said i had been refused twice. Then the lady checked the system and said I had not applied for a credit. She told me that If i had then the system would have shown it. Why on earth, i have received two decline letters. hmm.
now i want to close my account with them. will that affect my credit history negatively?

  • Closing a current account without debt will not affect your credit history, afaik.

it is never a good idea to cut your nose off to spite your face.

Life without a current account is difficult and costly, if you are unhappy at the natwest, open a new account elsewhere prior to closing anything.
I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven

Agreed... the length of time you have had your current account does count in some credit scoring systems so if you want to move (and why not try one that actually pays you some interest like Halifax at around 5% or Alliance & Leicester at 8.5% if you can pay in £500 (think its £1000 for Halifax) a month (even if it goes out again)).

For that reason I'd keep the Natwest account open but transfer all activity to the new account..
  • thanks guys for your assistance. actually, i have 4 more accounts with three different banks.
