well, sort of. I'm seroiusly considering ditching the telly and therefore the license fee. But can I still watch BBC News 24 on the computer? I've just tried the 10 oclock news with the telly on snd the computer and there seems to be a short [ few seconds] delay , but it does say "LIVE". so now I'm confused.
So , in order to watch this programme would I still need a license? if so i might as well keep the telly set in the corner of the room too.

if you watch it live which I believe the bbc are about to do you will need a licence.

But if there is a delay (not sure how long a delay you are suppose to have)or you use the iplayer no licence needed.

  • I totally recommend ditching the TV. I did over a year ago and it's great! Not only do I avoid the licence fee but more and more TV is now available online. With the iplayer and 4OD and now channel four also doing the last 7 days catch up I get to see everything I want! Even Big Brother.....

calleyw is correct. For delayed "podcasts" - no licence. For occasional "live multicasts" - no licence ... at present.

But ... when the BBC routinely stream live signal (like internet radio), they will be able to argue that internet is a "broadcast medium" and that all broadband modems or PCs should be under the licence umbrella. And trying to say that you don't use your PC to access the BBC will be just the same as saying you don't use your TV to watch the BBC now. Be afraid, be very afraid.

    Hi zarazara,

As watching tv on a computer isn't strictly Old Style I'll move your thread across to the techie board to see if the regulars on there can help.

OMG ditch the TV - I'd rather cut my arm off!!

That would mean I'd have to spend time chatting to the Missus and everything!!
