Child Tax Credit....HELP!

I really dont know where to start

I have been claiming tax credits for several years now, I have 2 sons one is disabled. When he was 16 he was eligable for IB
My wife claims this on his behalf
They are now saying that his tax credit should have stopped when my wife claimed IB on his behalfm they say we now owe nearly £10k HELP what should I do? are they correct?

Yes. Once a child reaches 16 then unless they're in further education or an approved training course, the claim for CTC stops. If they were in further education or training, you shouldn't have been claiming IB. So either way, you've been getting something you shouldn't have.

[see attached quote from disabled alliance...There is no regulation that says you cannot get IB while you are studying, even full-time. However, some people, including some Jobcentre Plus staff, assume that studying proves that someone is capable of work. In fact it all depends on the course you are going to do, and Skill believes that studying at FE or HE level should not impact upon IB, unless the course is very vocationally orientated and involves the same hours, tasks and pressure of employment

Did you not inform TC's at the time that your income had changed to include the IB?

yes we did! but they say that thay have no record even though one of their officers contacted us in the last 12 months Also after speaking to their line manager she stated that she didnt know if we should have been paid .. if she doesnt know what help is there for us! Also they werenot sure who the IB relates to (for Tc purposes!) Is it my wife as appointee and reciever of the IB,then it goes down as additional taxable earnings, or is it my son who although he is elegable for the IB he doesnt recieve it (its my wife who does!)

its a mess! TC did say that all telephone calls are recorded so their should be a record of all my correspondance. Even the line manager stating that even she didnt know if we should have been paid or not for the IB?..They said they would contact me shortly to advise me on what was happening. as she didnt know, and would have to get advice
