Disagreement between family Executors

My Grandmother who lived in Scotland died recently and her son and daughter are named in her handwritten Will as her executors. Unfortunately due to sibling rivalry they have fallen out badly and getting agreement on the disposal of my grandmothers moderate estate will prove difficult.
What advice can anyone offer. Should we use the legal profession?
Is there an estate value above which we should employ the legal profession?
Please!
